Bed Breakfast for Bowes MuseumBowes Museum is a must see when coming to Durham and the north of england. The musuem was created over 100 years ago by local businessman John Bowes and his french wife.
The house is magnificant with a fantastic collection of European fine and decorative arts in the North of England, all visitors young and old remember and admire the musical swan.
As well as the house there are some very impressive formal gardens. Bowes musuem is surrounded by a 23 acre park which is well worth an explore I do recommend the tree trail.
You would think that was enough but the museum runs a programme of events throughout the year such as fine and fashionable which lokks at lace demostrations and lots more are included.
Bowes Museum is eay to get to from The Riding only 36 miles 40 minutes by car but we have had guests cycle there it was well worth the peddle power they all slept well in our self catering cottages.
In 1997 the collections at Bowes Museum were awarded designated status which means they have collections of national and international importance and are a significant part of Englands cultural heritage.
Bowes Museum has a special place in our hearts many family trips out the cafe and resturant our great with lost of local produce yummy.
Dont forget to see the swan it stills amazes me and I see something new every time
