How Many watched Richard Wilson on the Road ? Not a grumpy man in sight!

We watched Richard Wilson on the Road on the TV last night, for those of you who didn't it was a lovely programme watching Richard explore some of the many highlights of the North East all of which are so close to our cottages and Bed and Breakfast at Riding Farm

He started off at Beamish Museum - ( only 2 miles from Riding Farm ) where he learnt about the mines, this is one of the many things you can learn about on your visit.

After a quick jam sandwich and cold tea! he set off again to explore the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside passing The Angel of the North along the way  - The Angel of the North can be seen from Riding Farm along with lovely peaceful countryside.

On the quayside he discussed the past and present and heard how our history is marked in folk songs at the stunning Sage - going there soon can't wait.

Then off to historical Durham and is the outstandingDurham Cathedral one of the reasons its a World Heritage Site, after a chat with the cleaner!! he set off to Raby Castle and watched the lovely deer which surround the castle - guests who stay at Sheep Pen Cottage always visit Durham Cathedral and Raby Castle.

Richard finished off by driving  across the Weardale and North Pennies glorious countryside

It was a lovely programme and just shows how we have moved on from 1937 when the guide was written, but still keeping our heritage, history and warm welcome, that we are known for world wide.   Come and see for yourself!!

Christmas is just around the corner and it's time for a whole season of festivities and fun at Beamish. And Father Christmas is arriving in style on Saturday, 15th November at 12 noon, in a beautiful sleigh pulled by two of his favourite reindeer.

Accompanied by fabulous festive tunes from Dunston Silver Band, a procession of period vehicles and costumed folk will lead Father Christmas into The Town, where he'll switch on the Christmas tree lights to signal the start of the celebrations.

The he's off to his magical fireside grotto at Pockerley Waggonway, in time to meet all the waiting girls and boys and discover what they'd like to find under the tree on Christmas morning.
